Dr. Alya Sultan is the first Omani Clinical Psychologist with Professional Doctoral Training.  She provides psychotherapy and assessment for adults seeking treatment for a range of mental health concerns. She is also an accredited clinical supervisor and trainer in Mental Health.

Prior to joining private practice, Dr Alya was working at the Al Masarra and Ibn-Sina hospitals, Ministry of Health, Oman, where she delivered psychotherapy and cognitive assessment for clients presenting with poor health conditions, limited literacy, or strong reservations regarding psychological services. In addition to her clinical role, she had administrative and teaching roles where she supervised staff, developed programs, and evaluated psychological services at the Ministry of Health, Oman.  

Dr Alya received her Professional Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Queensland, Australia and is a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society. Through her doctoral training, she worked in a variety of settings including Tertiary Care Hospitals, Private Practice, and Child and Family Support Centers. Dr Alya is a Fullbright Alumni. Her Bachelor’s and master’s degrees are both from the USA. 

Dr. Alya’s therapeutic style was shaped by a background emphasizing cognitive behavioral interventions focusing on the development of skills to improve psychosocial well-being.  She works with clients to understand their experiences and perspectives, while helping to guide them to their best match in evidence-based therapeutic techniques, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy, Eye Movement and Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Mindfulness-based, and Motivational Interviewing modalities. Dr Alya is also a certified provider of the “Triple P International” parenting program which focuses on practical strategies to help parents manage their children’s emotional and behavioral challenges.
