Dr. Mariam Alawadhi is a psychiatrist with expertise in women’s mental health. She is an assistant professor of psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine- Kuwait University. Dr. Mariam Alawadhi received her training in psychiatry at the University of Ottawa, in Canada and she is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada. She is the only psychiatrist with a rare specialty in women’s mental health and interest in issues related to mental distress in women across the lifespan.

Dr. Alawadhi founded the integration of mental health into general hospitals in Kuwait and into primary healthcare centers in Kuwait. She is an active advocate in fighting stigma against mental health and continuously participates in local and international campaigns to educate and increase awareness on mental illness and health. She was the Head of Consultation Liaison at the Kuwait Center for Mental Health - Kuwait's national mental health hospital. She also served as the medical lead for the women’s mental health unit at the Maternity Hospital in Kuwait and psychosocial oncology unit at Kuwait Cancer Control Center.

Dr.Mariam Alawadhi is active in her private clinic as well as in her role at Kuwait University. She is continuously participating in research studies focusing on mental health. She has successfully presented at multiple international and local talks on mental health conditions and discusses her research findings. Dr. Mariam also serves as an educator for undergraduate medical students and postgraduates psychiatric residents while maintaining her role as a lead physician in several hospitals across Kuwait.
